The Slemani Museum
The Slemani Museum was established in 14/7/1961.
It was first placed in downtown Slemani. After that it moved to its current building in Salem Street in 1979.
The current two floors building is built on almost 6,000 square meters.
The First Director of Slemani Museum was the Late Mr. Rafeeq Fathulla.
Due to the Iraq-Iran War, the Museum was closed between 1980 and 1988.
After the war, it was re-opened by the then director of Slemani Antiquities Mr. Mu’tasam Rasheed.
Shortly after it was closed again because the invasion of Kuwait, the Gulf war and consequently Kurdistan uprising until its re-opening by his Excellency Mr. Jalal Talabani in 20/8/2000
